Dersu Uzala (Russian: Дерсу Узала, Japanese: デルス·ウザーラ, romanized: Derusu Uzāra; alternative U.S. title: Dersu Uzala: The Hunter) is a 1975 Soviet-Japanese co-production film directed by Akira Kurosawa, his first and only non-Japanese-language film and his first and only 70mm film.

The look on his face when he saw the title and realized what the gift was - sheer delight! He, Dersu Uzala, is the master of his world and the educated people are lost in a sea of forest, an alien world that man is moving further and further from, which is ironic because without the bounty of nature we are nothing and cannot exist. Somebody's doing the wrong drugs. Duke White; 3/30/10 Dersu Uzala is a film set in pre-Soviet Siberia. Akira Kurosawa (Ran, Kagemashu) directed this film and won the Oscar for "Best Foreign Language Film" in 1976.

Movies: Dersu Uzala; As Russian soldier Vladimir Arseniev searches for the grave of Dersu Uzala, the Gold tribesman he befriended in the Siberian wilderness in ‘Dersu Urzala’ is a true work of art, a timeless musing on man vs. nature, on an inherent goodness that exists by two people from different worlds.

A life-affirming work that came at a key time for a director whose self-confidence was at its lowest ebb, ‘Dersu Urzala’ is cinema at its most vital. A UK region 2 DVD review of DERSU UZALA (2011 re-release) by Slarek There is a bitter irony to the fact that one of the world's most acclaimed and influential filmmakers finally won an Oscar for Dersu Uzala , a film made in Russia rather than in his home country, following a period in which almost no-one seemed interested in funding his work.

Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala is a very human, emotional, aspiring and most of all a beautiful film. It touches your heart and moves your spirit in ways you never thought were possible. Dersu Uzala is that kind of film that made me ponder about something human kind has lost or even forgotten.
